Camões - Institute of Language and Co-operation, I.P. supports activities that spread the Portuguese language and culture through its network of Portuguese Cultural Centres and Academic Chairs, Portuguese Language Centres, Portuguese lectureships and Portuguese Teaching International Co-ordination Units.

Camões, I.P. established an academic chair at the Department of Humanities of the University of Florence to promote the Portuguese language and culture overseas. The main purpose of the chair is to enhance the status of Portuguese as a cultural language.
