Impact

The research promoted by the project will be focused on production, circulation, and fruition of the book in the Classical world, with specific attention to the interactions between Greek and Roman civilizations. In a wider perspective, it will contribute to a better comprehension of the close relationships between these two civilizations and the influence of Greek culture on Roman culture.

Therefore, the impact of the DaLiB project is tied to the EU research programs and, more particularly, to the objectives of Pillar II, Cluster 2 of the program Horizon Europe, «Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society». Aiming at «building our future from our past», the Cluster intends to enhance the – material and non-material – cultural heritage also through sustainable and inclusive digital resources that allow to share the results within a community as wide as possible. The dynamics of cultural exchanges, the influence in the editorial techniques, and the fluxes of cultural and librarian migration between Greek and Roman civilizations lie at the core of the DaLiB project: it is clear, then, that it fully falls within the line of research promoted by EU, because it contributes to make European society more aware of its own past and willing to rely on it for a more inclusive future.

Moreover, the DaLiB open-access database, with its clear and intuitive structure, addresses a transversal audience, formed both by non-specialist users (e.g., high-school students) and by scholars interested or involved in research concerning the dynamics of Greek and Latin book circulation and fruition among Greece, Aegypt and Rome. Under this perspective, the DaLiB project draws inspiration and life-blood from the collection of the “Papiri della Società Italiana” (PSI), preserved the Papyrological Institute “G. Vitelli” (Florence). Furthermore, it represents a fruitful point of contact among the diverse lines of research followed by several classicists of the “Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia” (DILEF) at the University of Florence.
