EUniWell, European university for Well-Being

EUniWell – the European University for Well-Being – is one of 44 European University Alliances, selected for funding by the European Commission under the ERASMUS+ programme in 2020. EUniWell is formed by the eleven universities of Birmingham (UK), Cologne (Germany), Florence (Italy), Inalco (France), Konstanz (Germany), Linnaeus (Sweden), Murcia (Spain), Nantes (France), Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Semmelweis (Hungary), and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine).

The thematic focus of EUniWell includes five Arenas:

  • Health and Well-being
  • Social Equality and Well-being
  • Environmental Change and Well-being
  • Well-being in Teaching Future Generations
  • Culture, Multilingualism and Well-being

The DILEF is involved in EUniWell through the activity of Dr. Mariagrazia Portera, who is working in the field of Environmental Change and Well-being, in the specific declination of the humanistic approach to the environmental issue and the ecological crisis, according to the recently developed paradigm of the Environmental Humanities.

In June 2023, Dr Portera was awarded two grants, of which she is the coordinator, within the EUniWell project.

The first grant, in the framework of the 5th Seed Funding Call 2023, concerns the project "NATCULT - Across Nature and Culture: The city of Florence as a case study for natural-cultural conservation and preservation issues" and involves the organization, among other teaching and research activities, of an international Summer School in collaboration with the Universities of Cologne, Vaxjo, Nantes. The Summer School will take place in Florence from 4 to 8 September 2023.

The second grant, under the EUniWell Research Incubator scheme, concerns the project “Human and Non-Human Well-being in the Anthropocene City: Guidelines for Interdisciplinary Research and Sustainable Policies”, in collaboration with the Universities of Cologne, Vaxjo, Nantes. The project entails research activities, to be carried out between November/December 2023 and May 2024, for the theoretical-practical rethinking of the dimension of urban spaces from the perspective of cultural and biological sustainability.

In both projects, for the University of Florence, professors and researchers from the DILEF, FORLILPSI, BIO and DIDA departments are participating in addition to Dr. Portera.

In the framework of the NATCULT project, we would like to inform you that a call for applications for taking part in the Summer School, dedicated to the topics of the possible integration of conservation strategies for cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) and biodiversity heritage in the urban space, is open to all interested students (MA students and/or doctoral students). The deadline to apply is 23:59 on 15 July 2023.

For Unifi students, the requirement for participation in the call for applications is regular enrolment in a degree programme at the University of Florence. Participants will be selected on the basis of their CV and a letter of motivation, to be sent to Mariagrazia Portera, mariagrazia.portera(AT)unifi.it
